School preparation is a critical period that aims for the child to acquire the necessary maturity and skills in academic, social, emotional, and motor development areas before starting primary school. Every child's developmental pace is different, and some children may lag behind their peers in certain areas. As Önce Special Education, we offer comprehensive school readiness programs that ensure children start primary school with a solid foundation at our center in Pendik, Istanbul.
School readiness does not consist only of knowing letters and numbers. Many skill areas like attention span, following directions, waiting in line, pencil grip, scissor use, visual perception, phonological awareness, self-care skills, and social interaction are within the scope of this concept. We evaluate the children of families applying to our center from Pendik and surrounding districts with a holistic approach in all these areas and determine goals for their individual needs.
The school preparation programs implemented at our center are based on developmental psychology and early childhood education principles. How Does It Work?
Through developmental evaluation, the child's readiness level in cognitive, linguistic, motor, social-emotional, and self-care areas is determined.
Based on the evaluation results, an individual preparation program is created, and short-term goals are defined.
Structured activities are applied in basic areas such as phonological awareness, visual perception, attention and memory, and fine motor skills.
Through classroom environment simulations, the child's skills in following directions, waiting in line, and group behavior are developed.
Supportive activities to be applied at home are shared through regular feedback meetings with the family.

How can I know if my child is ready for school?
School readiness covers many skills, such as the child being able to maintain attention for a certain period, follow simple directions, hold a pencil, know basic concepts (color, number, shape), and adapt to social environments. If you have concerns, we can objectively determine your child's readiness level with a comprehensive developmental evaluation at our Pendik center.
When should the school readiness program start?
Ideally, it is recommended to start 6-12 months before starting primary school. This period is sufficient to develop the child's lacking areas and establish a solid foundation. However, the rule that always applies is this: It is best to start the moment the need is noticed. At Önce Special Education, we offer school readiness programs year-round, including the summer term.

Yes, individualized school readiness programs for children with special needs are available at our center. Preparation for inclusive education, transition to support education room practices, and adaptation studies to the school environment are special components of this program.
