Dysgraphia
We ensure writing is not a painful struggle, but an enjoyable skill.
Dysgraphia is a neurodevelopmental difficulty an individual experiences in writing skills. Handwriting legibility, writing speed, letter formation, spacing, line following, and written expression skills are areas that can be affected under dysgraphia. As Önce Special Education, we implement comprehensive individual therapy programs for children diagnosed with dysgraphia or showing symptoms of writing difficulty at our center in Pendik, Istanbul.
Children experiencing dysgraphia may get extremely tired while writing, complain of hand pain, avoid doing homework, and face great difficulty in in-class note-taking activities. This situation directly affects academic success because writing is the primary tool of learning and evaluation in our education system. With children referred to our center from Pendik and various regions of Istanbul, we develop both motor and linguistic writing skills with a holistic approach.
Dysgraphia therapy at our center is carried out with a multi-dimensional program consisting of fine motor skill development, handwriting training, visual-motor integration studies, and written expression strategies. Different components such as correcting pencil grip, letter form studies, line-space awareness, and composition planning are included in the therapy plan according to each child's needs. With our experienced team in special education and therapy in Istanbul Pendik, we support your child's writing process both physically and cognitively.
Who Is It For?

How Does It Work?
Handwriting samples, fine motor skills, and visual-motor integration are analyzed with a comprehensive evaluation.
Ergonomic factors such as pencil grip, hand-wrist position, and sitting posture are adjusted.
Letter form training, the correct starting point of letters, and drawing direction are systematically taught.
Hand-eye coordination is developed with visual-motor integration and fine motor strengthening exercises.
The cognitive aspect of the writing process is supported by teaching written expression strategies (planning, drafting, editing).

Frequently Asked Questions
My child's handwriting is very bad, is this dysgraphia?
Bad handwriting alone does not mean dysgraphia. For a diagnosis of dysgraphia, the writing difficulty must be out of proportion to the child's age and intelligence level, and they must experience significant difficulty in motor skills and written expression. We can accurately analyze your child's condition with a comprehensive evaluation at our Pendik center.
Is technology used in dysgraphia therapy?
Yes, technology is an important support, especially in severe dysgraphia. Tools like keyboard usage, writing applications on tablets, and speech-to-text software can facilitate the child's academic life. However, handwriting training is also maintained in parallel, because handwriting preserves its importance for brain development and learning processes.
How long does it take for dysgraphia to improve?
Rather than a condition that completely "recovers," dysgraphia is a difficulty that is managed and compensated for. With therapy, handwriting legibility and writing speed improve significantly. The process usually shows prominent progress between 6 months and 1 year. At Önce Special Education, we implement comprehensive programs that develop both motor and cognitive writing skills simultaneously.
