Academic Support Education
Every student's learning journey is unique; we build that path together.
Academic support education consists of individualized education programs for students whose academic performance is affected due to learning difficulties, developmental differences, or various reasons. Parallel to the school curriculum but adapted according to the child's individual learning speed, style, and level, these programs aim to increase academic success as well as strengthen learning motivation and self-confidence. As Önce Special Education, we offer comprehensive academic support services at primary and secondary school levels at our center in Pendik, Istanbul.
Every student's learning profile is different. Some children learn visually, while others learn better through auditory or kinesthetic channels. For students diagnosed with learning difficulties, teaching methods in a standard classroom environment may not be sufficient. With students referred to our center from Pendik and the Istanbul Anatolian Side, we first conduct a comprehensive academic level assessment, then restructure the learning process using the child's strengths.
The academic support education provided at our center is not in the nature of homework help or repeating lessons. An individualized education program (IEP) is prepared for each student, basic concept gaps are filled, learning strategies are taught, and metacognitive skills are developed. One-on-one or small group studies are carried out in core subjects like Turkish, mathematics, science, and social studies, accompanied by our expert educators. With our experienced staff in special education in Istanbul Pendik, we aim to maximize the academic potential of each student.
Who Is It For?
- Students diagnosed with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)
- Students within the scope of inclusive education and implementing an IEP
- Children whose academic performance is affected due to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Students who fall behind the curriculum level in basic reading-writing and math skills
- Students at risk of grade retention or who have lost their academic motivation
- Individuals who have academic gaps due to school change, long-term absenteeism, etc.
How Does It Work?
Through a comprehensive academic level assessment, the student's current knowledge and skill level in each subject is determined.
An individualized education program (IEP) is prepared, defining short-, medium-, and long-term academic goals.
Using teaching methods (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic) suitable for the student's learning style.
Goals are updated with regular progress evaluations, and coordination with the school teacher is ensured.
Strategies and recommendations are offered to the family to support the child's study routine at home.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between academic support education and private tutoring?
Private tutoring generally focuses on repeating a specific topic or preparing for an exam. Academic support education, on the other hand, is a comprehensive intervention that analyzes the child's learning profile, resolves basic concept gaps, teaches learning strategies, and is based on an individualized education program. Starting with understanding "how the child learns," these programs are run by our special education specialists at Önce Special Education.
In which subjects and grade levels do you provide support?
We offer academic support at primary (grades 1-4) and secondary school (grades 5-8) levels, mainly in core subjects such as Turkish and Mathematics. We work with individualized programs suitable for the curriculum at each grade level. Our experienced special education specialists at our Pendik center create a plan suitable for your child's academic needs.
How often should academic support education be conducted?
Based on the student's academic level and needs, 2-4 sessions per week are recommended. Each session usually lasts 40-50 minutes. In cases requiring intensive intervention, the number of sessions can be increased. Regularity and continuity are the most important factors directly affecting the effectiveness of academic support education.
