Occupational Therapy
A therapy program that increases the child's independence in daily life, developing fine motor and sensory skills.
Occupational therapy (Ergotherapy) is a health discipline that supports individuals in gaining independence in daily life activities, developing fine motor skills, and participating in meaningful life occupations. In children, occupational therapy covers fine motor skills such as handwriting, cutting with scissors, buttoning, as well as self-care activities, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, and play skills. As Önce Special Education, our experienced occupational therapists offer individual therapy programs to increase your child's daily quality of life at our center in Pendik, Istanbul.
Our occupational therapy program offered at our Pendik center includes evidence-based evaluation and intervention methods suitable for the child's age and developmental level. Developing fine motor skills, strengthening hand-eye coordination, handwriting preparation and training, teaching self-care skills (eating, dressing, personal care), and regulating sensory processing form the core intervention areas of our occupational therapy program. As a result of the individual evaluation conducted for each child, strengths and areas to be developed are identified, and a goal-oriented therapy plan is prepared.
At our center serving in the Pendik district of Istanbul, occupational therapy is carried out through the child's natural occupations: play, school, and daily life activities. In the therapy process, the child's motivation and active participation are prioritized. Our occupational therapists cooperate with families and teachers to ensure the skills acquired in therapy are generalized to home and school environments. We serve all children experiencing developmental motor delays, in addition to children with special needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I know if my child needs occupational therapy?
Children who struggle to hold a pencil, cannot cut with scissors, cannot button, have difficulty dressing, have illegible handwriting, or show sensory sensitivities can benefit from occupational therapy. A needs assessment can be made with a free initial meeting at our Pendik center.
How long do occupational therapy sessions take?
Individual occupational therapy sessions generally take 40-45 minutes. Session frequency is determined between 1-3 sessions per week according to the child's needs. The therapy process varies depending on the speed of the child reaching their goals.
What is the difference between occupational therapy and physiotherapy?
Occupational therapy focuses on fine motor skills, daily life activities, and sensory processing, while physiotherapy is more related to gross motor skills, muscle strength, balance, and movement capacity. Both services are offered at our center and can be planned together according to the child's needs.
Can occupational therapy be applied at school too?
Occupational therapy principles can be adapted to the school environment. Our therapist suggests strategies and environmental arrangements that can be applied in the classroom by cooperating with the teacher. In addition, therapeutic suggestions that can be integrated into daily activities for the home environment are also offered.
