Sensory Integration Therapy
A therapy approach that facilitates making sense of the sensory world and strengthens the child's brain-body connection.
Sensory Integration Therapy is a specialized therapy approach developed for difficulties in the brain's receiving, organizing, and processing of sensory information (touch, movement, balance, vision, hearing, taste, smell, proprioception). Children with sensory processing difficulties may exhibit hypersensitivity, distractibility, motor coordination problems, or behavioral responses in daily life. As Önce Special Education, we offer comprehensive sensory integration therapy programs run by our expert occupational therapists at our center in Pendik, Istanbul.
Our sensory integration therapy program is based on the sensory integration theory developed by A. Jean Ayres. In our sensory integration room specially designed in our Pendik center; there are therapy tools such as swings, trampoline, tactile materials, weighted pillows, and balance equipment. Each session is structured according to the child's sensory needs, and active participation directed by the child's own motivation is essential. In the therapy process, it is aimed to regulate vestibular (balance and movement), proprioceptive (body awareness), and tactile (touch) systems.
The sensory integration therapy implemented in our center in Pendik, Istanbul, can be offered alone or combined with special education, language therapy, and physiotherapy. Sensory processing difficulties appear as an accompanying problem in many conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental delay, and learning difficulty. Our therapists evaluate the child's sensory profile in detail and offer sensory diet recommendations that can be applied in home and school environments.
